The founder of Lichtenburg, a town in the North-Western province of South africa, Hendrik Greeff and his family were saved from death by thirst when he prayed to God.
He was directed to a hollowed-out tree that contained enough water to help him and his ox-waggon trek out of a predicament.
On his 50th birthday, he went back to the site to give thanks to God in the presence of all his family and friends.
Hendrik's eldest daughter, then married to the now famous Boer General Koos de la Rey, spontaneously followed in her father's footsteps by giving thanks to the Lord on her own 50th bithday.
