Why is it the names I am entering are showing two or more times? What am I doing wrong?

Hi Carole, Where are you trying to enter the names? In search or when creating a profile? Have you clicked on and read the New Member How to Use WikiTree Pages? When creating a new profile you will be presented with other possible matches with the name and click on each and compare before you continue to create the profile. If you find a match do not create a duplicate connect the profile to your tree. Click here for connecting profiles that are already at Wikitree.

I can see that Carole added a few duplicates:

I'd guess that she added a profile, didn't realise it was done, and started from scratch again. Looking at the descendents' lists from these profiles, she's created two duplicated trees. I'll try to help with merging.

The problem is that potential merges don't show up if the other profile has recently been created. The best way to prevent that from happening is for Carole to have been checking her contributions list when she was adding the profiles which would have provided her with proof of the profiles Wikitree ID.

I see that you did, in fact, add a few duplicate people. I've gone through, and where I could, proposed merges. Now, you can approve the merges, and the doubles will be turned back into single people:

If you've already created a profile for the person, you don't need to redo their profile for every relationship. You can directly add existing parents, or children, or husbands, or wives, by entering the wikitree id of an existing person into the right box (for instance, if you click 'add father' there's a place that asks you for a wikitree id.)

After doing a merge, a lot of times you'll see the text in the biography gets doubled. I cleaned up your merges, as an example.

A useful thing to look at is the "Changes" tab on a profile page. If you can click on that, you see a list of changes. If you click on one of those changes, you can see exactly what happened.

If someone makes a change on one of your profiles, it's useful to look at that change. If they've done something wrong, you can fix it.
