Finding an ancestor in the miliary

Anyone have any suggestions on finding information regarding an ancestor who was, according to his DN in the "52nd Regiment of foot, discharged in 1816" - this might just be the imagination of his sons, or it might have some basis in fact. Is there anywhere where one can find the enlistment and discharge information (I know its a long shot) but would be nice to be able to confirm this.

The 52nd regiment of foot, is otherwise known as the Oxfordshire Regiment. See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/52nd_(Oxfordshire)_Regiment_of_Foot
