Hello Maureen, My great grandmother was Kate Henegan, born in Schenectady NY 1861.  She married Edward William Roach and lived in Martinton IL.   Her father was Martin Henegan b.1830....mother was Mary Loftis b.1832, both from Ireland but, I do not know what part of Ireland.   Do you know anything about these people?  Any help is appreciated.

Thank you, Lynn Coleman (nee Reilly)

The 1880 census has the parents living in Martinton Illinois also

HI, again

I just  came across a thread on ancestry.uk  dealing with the henigan/loftis family.  There is a lot of information there.

I would just do a search for Loftis Hennigan.

Hi Lynn,

I have no personal knowledge of the people you are asking about. However you should be able to find records for them on Roots Ireland (it's the official GRO site for Ireland) http://www.rootsireland.ie/

All th ebest with your search

I did find my information about Martin on rootsireland.ie.  The earliest record of a Martin Henigan they have is 1838 born in Galway.

I have learned that Henigan (and its variations) are common around the River Moy.  In fact, my records are from County Mayo but it was Sligo until the end of the 19th century. I do have to change them on here.

I have a tree on Ancestry which is really just records of all the Henigans that have come through Philadelphia. I am sending you an invitation to look at it.

Thank you Maureen.....I really appreciate it!  I will look for your invitation and look up the River Moy area, as well. Cheers, Lynn
Since I am not currently a paying member of Ancestry, I suppose, I can't access any of my private trees, which include the Philadelphia Henigan one.  Sorry  but I am reconstructing what I do know from the Irish and US censuses

Well, that was fixed.  And I also wanted to mention Irish here and there.

http://www.irishhereandthere.com/

It is a random index of bmd's in Kilmoremoy.  I have twins on my tree, one I found on rootsireland, for a fee.  The other was indexed on irishhere and there for free.

Go figure
Thank you again for your information.  I had not heard of Irish Here and There.

Maureen have you done any dna testing?  I am on 23&Me.  My tree on Ancestry is

under the name Lynn_Reilly or trees.ancestry.com/tree/44314830/family should get

you there. Regards, Lynn
I haven't done any DNA testing. I am not really sure what I could learn from it. What have you found out about Henigans? I will look at your tree before this months subscription runs out. I only join Ancestry sporadically to check the hints . Maureen
