  1. Lewis is believed to have fallen ill and died during the family migration from Tazewell, VA to Linn County, Missouri between 1846 and 1850.
  2. His only known son (George William Cooper b. 12 Feb 1843 in Tazewell, VA) is found in the 1850 US Fed Census living with his maternal aunt Louisa (Haller/Anderson/Gooch) Asbury in Dist 50, Linn, Missouri. 
  3. In every Census from 1850 to 1910 his son George William Cooper gives Pennsylvania as the place of birth of his father. 
  4. Written family story from 1951 complied by grand-children of George William Cooper states that Lewis came from Westmoreland, VA. based on statements from his aunt Louisa. 
  5. No record has been found of this Cooper family in records yet found in Westmoreland, PA.
  6. Lewis Cooper is proven by suits in Virginia Chancery Court, Tazewell, VA. and early VA marriage records. 

The bill of your Orator and Orationer, Lewis Cooper & Eliza his wife, (also known as Eliza Asbury) and Louisa Y Asbury humbly complaining ??? to your honor. That William Asbury the father of those female complainants departs this life in the year ??? in the ??? County of Tazewell intestate Seized and ??? of a valuable real and personal estate. The realty consisting of the homestead of 200 acres and a tract on the ??? Mountain containing between five and six hundred acres. He left a widow Mary Asbury and the following children. Thomas, George, Moses, Archibald and Robert Asbury, Mary Brooks wife of James Brooks, Jane wife of James Molloy, Hannah wife of Able Molloy, Darcus Asbury & William Asbury the two cast together with your Orationer were infants at the time of the death of their father William Asbury
