What’s wrong with matchbot?

I have just rejected a series of proposed merges for Hawkin-1557 and I see there are other Hawkins merges being proposed by matchbot.  The ones I rejected were not even close to deserving consideration.  What’s up?

If we have a mad robot it will cost a lot of time!

MatchBOT is wasting people's time.  If there's a volunteer team who want to supervise it to catch ridiculous match suggestions, that's fine, but its suggestions should go to them only in the first instance before a match gets proposed.  I had to reject one today where the Christian name of one profile matched the middle name of the other, the surname matched, but the birthplaces were given on both and were on different sides of the country.  If someone thinks it's important to keep checking matches like this, they should be doing the checking, I shouldn't have to as profile manager.  If the profiles were actually a plausible match, I'd be happy to check them myself.
