Both Sandy (born about 1830 in NYC) and his sister, Eliza Frances Berryman (born about 1845 in NYC) married into the Macintosh family. These were NYC families, but Sandy and Bessy moved to Dunkirk, NY in the early 1860s. They had a son born in 1862. I also have a marriage certificate of a Grant Macintosh Berryman (b. about 1865) who says his parents are Alexander Berryman and Elizabeth Macintosh. A letter written by Bessy's brother George Macintosh on May 9, 1862 from Beaufort, SC to his young wife, Eliza Berryman, says, "Now, you don't tell me what news you had from Sandy. He tells me Bessy has had a fine son. It is now I think about three months old. He thinks it resembles me very much, meaning it, I suppose, for a compliment." The U.S. Census for 1870 shows Elizabeth Berryman (Bessy) living in NYC with just a five year old son named Ulysses. It's possible that Grant Macintosh Berryman and Ulysses Berryman are the same person and that the son born in 1862 died young.
