I have a letter signed by Dr Hatfield from my great grandfather who lived in Logan and  claimed he was treated by Dr Hatfield in Logan . This Dr. was from the famous family of Anse Hatfield. Was there a Dr. Hatfield from that family who would have practiced at the turn of the century?

Yes, there was indeed a doctor within the Hatfield clan, a Dr. Henry Drury Hatfield (1875-1962), who later became the 14th Governor of West Virginia from 1913-1917.  He was a nephew of Devil Anse, and was born in Mingo County, West Virginia on September 15, 1875, and died in Huntington, West Virginia on October 23, 1962.

Yes, his name was Elliott Hatfield. He was Devil Anse's son. There are some great books out there about the Hatfield and McCoy families. I think Dr. Elliott's gr. son wrote a book or edited one.  He appeared for a book signing at a local bookstore here.

My my father was Dr. John Ray Hatfield, he practiced in Logan back in the 1950's and 1960's. He was related to Anse by way of Eph's brother Slater. Slater was dad' GG grandfather.
