Are you able to add or tag an ANZAC?

April 25th is ANZAC Day in New Zealand and Australia. It's the day we remember our fallen service personnel. I know everyone is tired after the Clean-a-thon, but it would be great if you could add or tag a soldier, sailor, airman or woman or nurse today.

Thanks Fiona for the prompt. I'll see who I can find! Gillian
i created my first Anzac profile yesterday but since I am very much a beginning with Wikitree I have no clue how to add a tag. I did post a question in the G2G message board yesterday on this but it seems to have disappeared.

I just need simple instructions on where and how to add a tag

Thank you. I'll have a go at adding the Anzac tag this afternoon. I've a few to do - I'm not very good at categories, sadly.
That is quite a few extra ANZACs added. Great work.

I added Allan McLean and some of his family this week. Haven’t quite pinned down his mother’s maiden name though.

Thank you for doing Allan's profile Kathleen. That must have been so tragic for his family, especially being killed so close to the end of the War.

Yes, his father's obit says that "much of the sunshine of life was robbed from him" after Allan's death. It seems that the small towns lost a disproportionate amount of their best and brightest.

You're so right, Kathleen.  It is truly heartbreaking to look at the names on memorials in small towns / communities.  So many, and so young.

My grandfather's cousin was KIA 15 Sep 1918 aged 20.  The first time I read that info, I cried.  My grandfather returned, or I wouldn't be here, as did an older brother, but their eldest brother did not, dying in Egypt.

Every time I see how YOUNG those boys were, my heart aches for them and their families.  I did my best to bring my children up to respect the sacrifices made - of time and youth, if not life.  I think it worked.

I think I may have found his mother's name.  I'll send you a message.  (In case I'm wrong, my shame will not be public! cheeky)

Watching the Anzac services and marches I thought I should do something with the information I have so I have created a free space page which lists the WWI volunteers from the Illawarra region https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:World_War_I_Volunteers_from_the_Illawarra_region

So far I have only been able to tag one with the Anzac category, https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Caldwell-3398

Well done Vivienne. Nice work.
Thanks Gillian. If anyone would like access to the full database please pm me. I have it on Google docs. I will also add some excerpts from my thesis over time.

Ok - I added a person from our local War Memorial - https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Horton-6105. I'll see if I can connect him up.

I have just added Phyllis Boissier https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Boissier-25 one of the first nurses to volunteer in World War I. Her profile needs a lot of work as there is much to say about her.

To me she was just 'Miss Boissier' the lovely old lady I knew as a child. She lived quite near to my grandparents and was a close friend of the family. Miss Boissier always had time to talk to us, and as if we were adults. I thought she was nicest adult I ever knew. Although I had known that she had been a nurse it was not until the 1990s that I found out about her career and achievements.

Thanks so much for adding a nurse, Vivienne. Women are only now getting the recognition they deserve.
Vivienne, thank you for adding Phyllis to WikiTree especially acknowledging her contribution to WWI. She sounds a wonderful woman.

Graeme, I have added some sources to Thomas's father who didn't pass away until 1925. His brother Allan sounds as if he was put out by being overlooked as the official Next of Kin. (Letter in Military Personnel File.)

(My 3x great-grandparents were early settlers at Turakina in the 1840s/1850s.)

I tried. Found it so confusing with correct category and wording of stickers, gave up and instead added cemetery references. Pity.

Wow! Thomas Cooke VC. I taught at Kaikoura High School. One of our houses was named after him. It's so special to see him here. Thank you Jenny.
