What is a "Mayflower Family"?

We have a category for Mayflower Families.  I gather it is supposed to be for close relatives of Mayflower passengers.  At what point does this cut off?  I just saw someone with the Category who was born in 1700.   That seems to be stretching it a bit  to me, but I could find no guidelines on the category page.

What is the cutoff: children, grandchildren, parents who didn't emigrate?  I'm descended from William Brewster.  Can I use it?devil

Perhaps we could add a category for the crew of the Mayflower - for example, John Parker, who was a mate.

Others who came early to Plymouth Colony should be tagged with the Plymouth Colony category.

According to the project page -

The Mayflower Project currently covers the passengers of the Mayflower, and their descendants for several generations. In the future, it may be expanded to cover other early European settlers in that area.

Aren't there different categories/templates/projects?

Isn't there one just for Mayflower passengers, too?
The quote I gave was from the Mayflower Project page, I assume they have input on categories and templates. I would suggest contacting Becky.
For now, the Mayflower Families categories covers passengers (as defined in Bradford's History), their spouses, and children and grandchildren. and any of their descendants born before 1700.  Serious documentation for any of these is the ideal.

The Mayflower Passenger Category is for only the actual passengers, as recognized by the Mayflower Society.

Perhaps after this phase of the project is complete, we can add another generation or two to the category.

Other early arrivals to Plymouth Colony have the Plymouth Colony category.

For Mayflower Descendants born after 1700, the "Mayflower Descendent on WikiTree" category applies.  Please consider what a reasonable number of entries to a category should be. Perhaps only living people should have this category. Perhaps a mention in the biography section that he/she is a descendant of pilgrim John Alden would be enough.

The final arbitor for Mayflower families is the Mayflower Society. I expect we use a similar basis, which is a Direct, very proveable, unbroken ancestry to a Mayflower passenger and certain of their spouses/children who arrived in the next ship or two.

As far as I know, there is no limitation on the amount of generations but know their standards are quite strict.

Having a category for the ships crew would only seem appropriate if they left direct descendents in America.

Having spent lots of time, money, and energy making DOCUMENTED connections for 12 generations, as well as being able to prove a "line" through acceptable DNA, it takes patience and persistence in absolute proof of one generation to another.  The proofs must be acceptable documentation even if it means you sometimes feel like a pest when you ask those in authority.  Generally, these people are  willing to help with suggestions, but often the record keeping is poor and  you need to look at, read, study and evaluate every little detail before completely disregarding it.  Recently, the answer which almost had become impossible to make pieces fit goes back to a history  written by a later generation which I had read and put aside several years earlier.  When I pursued the situation with a historian, he  immediately was able to associate and supply documentation which never occurred to me.  I have been pleasantly surprised, as well as able to recall having read that old account long ago.  Suddenly, the pieces fit!  Disregarding sometimes boredom and often tired eyes, scourge the internet for books or family histories, sift through the information,  categorize it as if accounting, evaluate it as  if a scientist,  remember it and be persistent in making the pieces fit reasonable time line.  Once it does, and you have justifiable argument, SUBMIIT your work.  Just remember---Acceptable Documentation!
