It can happen. Do you have a specific question about specific individuals?
I was told that my great-grandfather changed his name, and traveled with the circus as a clown.  I can not find any infromation under his birth name.  I have been trying for years to help my grandmother find her mother who hasn't been seen since 1953.

The name they were given at birth should be the Last Name at Birth. If they changed their name and continued using it, it goes in Current Name (for women it is usually their married name but you can use it for any name change). If they used a variety of names or different spellings, you can add them all in Other Last Names, separating each one with a comma. This helps to ensure they can all be found in a search.
