How do i know Mary Jane Auld m to James Willis is correct and not Mary Jane Brown

This is where you need to check, actual certificates Death Certificates often provide who their spouse was. In Australia it is recorded on the death cert. You may need to look at  newspaper clippings, is there an obituary for either person. Or is the name  recorded on a child's certificate. Is there a marriage announcement in the paper.  What names are associated with Memorials or  funeral notices.It takes a bit of investigating.  The worse thing of course is that it is a completely different person and you need to start again.

Happy sleuthing, the end result is worth it.

The problem here is people with same name in same location and sometimes they baptised child in another church and not the regular if that happened to be convenient.  And records have been lost and not well kept at times.  Wish they had to list parents names when getting married also.  That would have helped.  Sometimes in the baptisms they put the maiden name of mother but lots of times they didn't.  So many duplicate names and sometimes remarriages with wives with same names.  Lots of searching.  Just wish there was more time to do the research.

In Australia they put  Father's name and occupation on Marriage Cert, Both parents on Death with Spouse and when and where married with all living childrens First name and age together with how many males & females deceased.  Don't give up, the answer might be on one of the childrren 's certificates.

That is a great idea that Australia is doing.  Wish all the countries did something like that; especially in the early centuries.  It makes it difficult though when there is no record of wife's maiden name.  Take this Mary Jane (Auld) Willis.  There is also a Mary Jane Brown married also to a James Willis.  Question would be is there two James Willis or did he marry twice.  Odds are there are more James Willis's   And when they all come from the same district it is definitely fun (grrr_ sorting it out. My problem is I am one for exact details in this kind of project and one just can't get it.  Same when sorting out whose son or daughter is this person.   Too many John's or Daniels born at the same time.  and if the father's- 1st cousins have same names and no maiden name for mothers it is difficult.  I guess I feel rushed as I am not starting young at this.  Plus I can't do a lot of reading and I am not sure if I could read the microfiche. as I have a vision problem.  Though moving here was wonderful with all the families still connected on the island

She may have been widowed. BROWN might be here married name before she married Willis. I would research her. I also found a descendant who was married twice to wives with the same name. Good luck.

Thank you Eddie King.  With the marriage the same time frame as the early children I may have to assume that my Mary Jane Auld was not married to James Willis unless there were two marriages in same time frame.  I believe the Willis and Brown and Auld families were all in near proximity.

Well will remove that information for the time being.

I was really hoping I had the right information.    I never have time to

I am thinking there is two James Willis.  Reason is that someone entered Wiki file for her sister a Susanna Auld as living with James Willis, Lot 31:  The thing is would this be Mary Jane's sister or her mother and this is Susannah's son-in-law?  Mary Jane's sister's id is 357.
