Alex Cochrane from the Isle of Man

My ancestor, Alexander Cochrane (Cochrane-855) was an Irishman who lived during adulthood on the Isle of Man. His profile contains his full details. I have found him and his family in census, parish records and the marriages of his children.

I'm wondering if any WikiTreers may know of any other Isle of Man resources that may help find more about this family. In particular:

1. Where in Ireland did they come from? Even just a broad area based on where Irish immigrants to the Isle of Man typically came from would be helpful.

2. Are there any legal, property, newspaper etc. records about his life on the Isle of Man.

3. His eldest known son Thomas was born c.1844. According to the census he was born on the Isle of Man but there is no baptism for him there so I suspect he was actually born in Ireland. After the 1861 census he dissapears. Is anyone able to find out what happened to him?

Thank you in advance for any information

There are some editions of the Isle of Man Times on https://www.britishnewspaperarchive.co.uk and http://Findmypast.co.uk. Might be worth a look, but I did not check whether they cover the period you are interested in.

My twice great grandfather (Blair-3407) was born in Downpatrick in 1839, but his family moved to Conchane on the IoM shortly after his birth.  In later life he was a schoolmaster in Yorkshire.  Oddly, he was in the habit of filling in the census with a birth location of Argyllshire, which has puzzled myself and other researchers.  Let me know if the Blairs come up in your investigations.

No, he died in 1870
Sorry, I thought you said he vanished after 1850.
