Need some help with Charles Mackenzie of Letterewe

Hi I'm hoping that someone who works with the Mackenzie Clan might be able to give me some help. I am trying to find out about Charles Mackenzie of Letterewe (guessing born around 1625 and would be my 8 times great grandfather) and information on his daughter. My research is based around a passage from History of the Clan MacRae Author Reverend Alexander MacRae whch deals with a couple of my ancestors

"IX. DONALD married a daughter of Charles Mackenzie of Letterewe, with issue." [page 458] - from the History of the Clan Macrae - Detail Page 168 and Page 458

The "issue" was Murdoch Macrae who also married a Mackenzie - Julia Mackenzie (b about 1670) who was daughter of Kenneth Mackenzie  a merchant in Dingwall (hit a brickwall with him as well)

The question is  how many Charles Mackenzie's of Letterewe are there around that time and does it mean that he was part of the Letterewe estate or owned it. I have found one Charles Mackenzie of Letterewe  but can't find evidence of his daughter marrying a Macrae. Would love to know her name as well. So hoping that someone from the Mackenzie clan project who knows the written clan geneology history might be able to help.

The particular Donald Macrae line is a grandson of Rev Farquar Macrae of Eillan Donnan https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Macrae-465 so the Makenzies and Macrae of those lines  would be well known to each other

I'm sorry, but I've had to remove your ancestor as a daughter of that particular Charles MacKenzie of Letterewe as the dates you've given would make this woman an older contemporary of Charles's, and not his daughter. The following information is in the "History of Clan Mackenzie," pages 357/358.

"The Mackenzies of Letterewe

Kenneth Mackenzie, VI of Gairloch, married, as his third wife, in 1658, Janet, daughter of John Cuthbert of Castlehill, Inverness, and by her had issue -

I. Charles Mackenzie of Mellen (sic) Charles, and I. of Letterewe...  He married Anne, daugther of John Mackenzie, II. of Applecross (sasine 1687), by whom he had issue..."

Given that Charles's father married his mother in 1658 (unless there are very obvious reasons to disbelieve what we have in the Mackenzie history), Charles can't have been born earlier than 1659.

Hey I was just looking for some help - as per my original question. It was indicated  in the Macrae History. As to having any indication of the Macraes  from this branch of the family having married notible  Mackenzies  yes there were quite a few .If you haven't already removed the connection I will
If you do find any more information on the dates for this family, I'd appreciate hearing about it, so that I can change the profiles I've been working on.

It looks as if the sources I've found on the internet for this particular family are mostly taken from the History of the Clan Mackenzie - which doesn't mean that book is completely correct, of course. For one thing, the clan histories do seem to have a habit of leaving out some of the daughters.

Thanks,

Colin
I don't know if this is of any help -  but in his close family - His uncle Alexander of Inverinate married ist Mary Mackenzie  of Davochmaluag and later Margerate Mackenzie of Redcastle his other Uncle John Ian Breac  of Dingwall married  Agnes Mackenzie of Kincraig , his aunt Isabel married Wiliam Mackenzie of  Dochmaluag, His uncle  Donald married Isobel Mackenzie of Hilton.  . and his Grandfather was https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Macrae-465.
Thanks! I'll take a look at those and see if we have any ancestors in common.
