I really liked this when I did his profile ... They gave their kids a middle name based on where they were born ... ala:

Josephine Antonia - Fort Antonia, Texas

Russell McIntosh - Fort McIntosh, Texas

Agnes Roxbury - Boston, Massachusetts (there's a Roxbury area there)

Dorothy Kern - Bakersfield, Kern, California

Note: I'm still trying to find out about Fort Antonia ... should it be Antonio ??? and they used a feminine form ??  Ah, well.

Yes, and during the age of sail families often travelled together as a unit on the ship. I have seen many examples of the middle NAME RECORDED AS " Seaborn "" or a particular port of call "Regis" (Russia) or "Äzore". etc.
