I am Rohann Schoombie a grandson of John Albertus Schoombee, his grave is in Alberton,I know his family is from Middelburg region, his father was Godlieb (I have a photo of a photo of him) he was a Cape Policeman, later moved to Kimberley,Sanderton, Lichtenburg and settled eventually in Johannesburg. My father Johan Albertus Schoombie was born 1948-06-06, he had an older sister Anna Francina Pheiffer (nee Schoombee) two brothers Cornelius Hermanus Schoombie and Willem (I don't know all his names) Schoombie. I was told that Betsie Verwoerd was a younger cousin of my grandfather. I never met him. I would like to know more about our family as I noticed a split in the name ~BEE to ~BIE?

Hi Rohann, I think we might we related. My father was Willem Antonius Schoombie and his father was Willem Stermberg Schoombie. Betsie Verwoerd was a younger cousin of my grandfather. We lived in Alberton where my mom still resides and then my uncle lives in Kimberley. Looking my family history up today my mom told me that with the registration of the surnames with my grandfather they made a mistake and put it BIE instead of BEE.
