I appreciate the hard work of the developers and leaders of WikiTree to make this platform available - without cost - to those who choose to become a community member. It isn't easy for any site, but especially a site the express purpose of which is to make available personal information, to navigate the global privacy waters. I think they do as good a job as any, and better than many.
I have been a community member for six years. I have had a generally positive experience. It always was conceived of as a collaborative site, and that requires compromise from time to time.That also means it is not for everyone. There are many other sites available that may be a better fit for publishing personal genealogy, including developing a personal site, which is actually pretty easy these day. Not to mention the old-fashioned way of making research available: submitting it to a genealogy periodical or self publishing a book.
I will say that on this particular topic, I made a decision after about a week of being a member not to include information living children at all or about living people unless I had their express permission. It seemed the courteous thing to me, and it is a personal guideline that has served me well.
