Shared Photo: Oplin school

Question

I wanted to share this family photo of Newman Mearse with the community. Location: Cottonwood, Callahan, Texas. Date: 1914.

Although there is a tag that says Oplin, Texas, this is the school in Cottonwood. My folks lived near Oplin, yet this is where they went to school. Does anyone have a better copy of this photo?

Priceless photo- I've seen many from the 50s but didn't know school photoshoots were doe earlier. Was it? If so, what decade?

I assumed school photoshoots were happening for many years, since photography was invented? Although, perhaps not in rural Callahan county Texas! I believe this was in 1914. My great uncle Newman was born in 1905 and he was kicked in the head by a mule and died in 1916. I am a descendant of Albert Mearse, his brother.

It's priceless-my knowledge of itinerate photography it limited, must plan to learn a bit more. I've seen plenty o family groupings, and of course the famous Civil War photos, but 1914 school photos, none. Don't think we have any school photos kicking around here from either my parents era or grandparents days. Nobody kicked by a mule either- colorful family tale to pass down through history  though it must have been quite a blow at the time.
