Please can someone explain how to use {{Category TOC}}?

I see it works fine on One Name Studies, but I can't get it to work elsewhere. Obviously I'm missing something.

It should just work.  Where doesn't it work?
i shall probably want to use it on Yorkshire in the long run. But i tried it out on Cheshire, got the alphabet, but clicking on a letter just removed all the content.

Is there a minimum number needed?
It works on the People or Pages section, not the Subcategories section.

The main ONS page has a huge Subcategories section, and then the first 200 space pages down at the bottom.  If you jump to a letter in the space pages, it leaves out the Subcategories section.
Thanks, I'll experiment.

Here's an example of what I have on my category:

{{Category TOC|category=Descendant_of_Johann_Christoffel_Schacke}}

You can see on my category at the bottom what it shows: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Category:Descendant_of_Johann_Christoffel_Schacke

The Category TOC template used to require inclusion of the category name, but now it works fine if you enter {{Category TOC}}

If you click on one of the letters, it takes you to that part of the list of spaces and profiles in the alphabet.   It is sometimes hard to get back to the page that has the Subcategories on it.  I have found that you have to refresh the page or go to another Category that links back to the Category that you are trying to get to see the subcategories.   The links in the Table of Contents ignore the Subcategories.  It is very helpful for categories with lots of spaces and profiles in them but does have have the above disadvantage.
