Scottish/Irish ancestry, how to follow

Good Afternoon,

I am trying to ascertain where my mother's family would fall under in the Tartan Register. My mother was a nee McKechnie, born in The Haggs, Stirlingshire. Her father came from Dundee and her mother, a nee Shannon, came from Ireland.

What would be the best method be to find if her family is a 'sub-clan' to one of the other Scots Clans. I have check the Tartan Register and no McKechnie is registered. Is there a separate register for Irish clans?

Can any person with knowledge of these matters kindly direct me to a site I may consult?

Many Thanks,

Rod
