Can’t enter new people with death dates

Question

I can’t enter anyone into my tree as the “living” is automatically checked every time.  There is no way to correct it, change it, it just says the person can’t be both living and have a death date or place.  How do I fix this?  Anyone else have this problem?  I am just getting started.

Is the "blank because living" button selected, or did you enter an e-mail address?

Thank you. The email did it.  I entered my email not knowing it was asking about the person’s email not mine.  Now I have been able to add people it’s no problem.
