I AM OF SANTEE NATIVE AMERICAN OUT OF SOUTH CAROLINA THRU RACHEL SINGLETON ( NEE DAVIS) AND HER HUSBAND ADAM SINGLETON WAS SAID TO HAVE BEEN THREE QUARTERS NATIVE AND ONE QUARTER AFRICAN AMERICAN BECAUSE ONE OF HIS PARENTS WERE HALF WHILE THE OTHER WAS FULL BLOODED " SEEKING PROOF" WHILE MANY SUGGEST DNA > SCIENTISTS HAVENT AS FAR AS I KNOW BEEN ABLE TO IDENTIFY THOSE MARKERS YET

I think that DNA tests can identify African and what they call Native American markers. The Native American can be anything from Canada to South America. I think it depends how far back these ancestors lived and what percentage of their DNA you inherited.

One thing that DNA cannot do is identify specific tribes.

If you decide to do DNA testing, I would recommend a Family Finder test and a Full Sequence mtDNA test.

I did both of them last year and it gave me a good breakdown.

Since the Singleton looks to be in your mother's line the mtDNA which everyone inherits from their mother has potential.

I had taken the Y-DNA test some years back with some good results.

As was suggested to me some years back when I was considering a new job, "Nothing ventured, nothing gained."
