May/June 2018 Biography Builders - People born in the 1600’s

This month's theme will be profiles for people born in the 1600’s. We all have a few, but they don't need to be related to you. Anyone born in the 1600’s will qualify.

Biography Builders Goal: To make profiles as complete as possible with well-written biographies and sources. You should research as much as you can find on a person, writing the information onto the profiles to create as complete a life story as you can for that person. Sourcing should be full citations. This includes adding categories and links to events and people connected to that profile and citing all those additions. See the first month for examples of how to participate.

Here's our checklist:

Data Section:

  • birth date/place
  • names of parents
  • marriage date/place and spouse name
  • death date/place

Biography Section:

  • Written (full) sentences stating the facts above, adding inline sources to each fact.
  • Is the profile '''Genealogically Defined?'''
  • As a general rule biographies should be in your own words. Paraphrase and rewrite, don't copy/paste.
  • Baptism, burial, military, and other life events with inline sources.
  • Something to "humanize" the person, such as career or avocation with sources.
  • List of children with at least one pertinent fact.
  • One of the suggestions was siblings. I think this takes up real estate.
  • Explanatory remarks, if needed (e.g. disputed persons information, Research Notes, whatever needs extra explaining).
  • Photos or pictures, background. Not a must, but nice (you need to own the copyright unless they are in the public domain).
  • Categories/Projects.
  • Connection to the Global Tree.
  • All duplicates merged or initiated.
  • Links to persons and events, perhaps from Wikipedia.
  • Historical context as related to the person's life.
  • Sources, Sources, Sources.

You can see some ideas on where to find some of this information on the Biography Builders space page, linked below.

Use "comments" below to ask questions.

NOTE: Biography Builders will not show on the tracker. Please add a list to your answer.

Count me in again. It could be a bit challenging as there is not as much information about them as there is for people born later. It should be fun.

1. Thomas Birks (1647-1714) https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Birks-157 Added more source information and links, and put sources inline.
2. Robert Hepworth (1633) https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Hepworth-217 Added biography. Sourced marriage.
3. Lucy Hepworth (1670-7153) https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Hepworth-177. Added biography.
4. Maria Jubb  (1627-1682) https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Jubb-197 Sourced christening and added biography.
5. Ann Wilson (1601) https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Wilson-53692 Added profile with biography, sourced christening and marriage.
6. Jeremiah Gillott (1667-1704) https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Gillot-11 Added biography, sourced christening and marriage.

This one is going to be tough if I just work on my own family, as I haven't got many lines back past 1700 and those I do have don't have an awful lot of interesting information to add in addition to baptism.marriage and burial lol I have a couple with wills I could dig out...

I may use this opportunity to source some unsourced pre-1700 Kent & Essex profiles

OK my first one:

1) Bachell-10 Richard Bachell (1670-1740) - I need to do some more investigation but I suspect he is 2nd or 3rd generation Walloon emigrant.

2) Bachell-14 Samuel Bachell b. 1684 - believed to be related to Richard, but I'm still trying to find the connection

3) Shonke-1 Jane Shonke circa 1683-1772

4) Mahue-4 Austin/Augustin Mahue 1692-1731

5) Davys-55 Elizabeth  Davys 1660-1714 mother of Austin/Augustin...finally found a document to give her maiden name -now I just need to find her marriage.

6) Davys-56 Thomas Davy/Davys/Davies circa 1620-1703

OK - have a lot of 1600's profiles in need of Bios, but not really enough info to write about.  Jumping in on a huge leap of faith that i can find, at least a couple, with enough info to write something interesting.  :-/

I'll try to work on this one. I'm sure I can come up with a few, time permitting!

  2. Anne Rimbault-4, b. 1671 Acadia - merge proposed/ completed
  3. René Rimbault-3, b. 1674 Acadia - merge proposed/ completed
  4. Madeleine Rimbault-5, b. 1675 Acadia - merge proposed/ completed

  8. Françoise Rimbault-8, b. about 1666 Acadia
  9. Jeanne Marie Kagigconiac-1, b. about 1661 Acadia. Not sure if this one counts. I didn't actually edit the profile, but initiated a merge of an unsourced duplicate profile into this PPP.

Working Currently on https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Stratton-415 - Joseph Stratton (born: estimated 1593 in Shotley, England - died: 1641 in James City, Virginia) and his brother, https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Stratton-15 - John STRATTON (born: estimated 1583 in Shotley, England - 1627 in Ardleigh in Essex - the parish adjoining Dedham - and was buried at Shotley.), but I will be adding to John's son, https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Stratton-2574 - John Stratton (born: 1606 in Shotley, England - died: 1645 in Salem, Massachusetts) the next couple of days. Found a family history wrote in 1908 that has a 5 page biography on him. There may be more information in the 2 volume publication. I think these may be ancestors of mine so it is of particular interest to me.

Not sure if they qualify for this challenge or if I am doing this correctly. I would appreciate some feedback and / or help with the biography section once I get the information in the Research Progress section. But I want to get the information in the section first so I can look for more information.
