I am searching for my great, great grandfather, George Nicholson. Per the 1870 U.S. Census, George Nicholson was b 1828, Ireland, wife Mary b 1838, New York. They had four children, Thomas b 1863, Missouri, James (my great grandfather) b 1865, Missouri, Mary b 1867-68, Missouri and Matilda b1870, Missouri.

They resided in St. Louis, MO at the time of the 1870 U.S. Census.

Mary’s maiden name is shown as McLaughlin on her son, James’ death certificate but I have been unable to confirm this.

I have been unable to locate any birth, marriage or death records for any of the family members listed on the 1870 census except for my great grandfather James.

It appears the surname Nicholson was changed to Nickelson at some point in time but I have not been able to determine when.

I would appreciate any assistance.
