For Missouri ancestors who died between 1910 and 1967, this may be helpful:

https://s1.sos.mo.gov/records/archives/archivesmvc/deathcertificates

The Missouri SOS office has a list of other genealogical resources:

https://www.sos.mo.gov/mdh/browse?id=9

It includes a pre-1910 birth and death records database (incomplete) as well as Missouri Census schedules from 1830-1940.

Lynn, since you have the McClain surname yourself, I strongly suggest you join the Clan MacLean DNA project at family tree dna.  We have lots of McClains over there from MO and if you know of a male McClain cousin (even a distant cousin) in your lineage, a Y DNA test may help you narrow things down.  But even your own atDNA is useful.  We prefer people test at Ancestry DNA and then download their data and upload (for free) to FTDNA.  We find Ancestry tools, with their DNA and trees are most helpful.  However, we are over at FTDNA because we are studying the surname and Y DNA primarily which travels along the surname.  But your atDNA is a welcome addition to the project and maybe we will see something if you ask for our help over there.
