Hi WikiTreers!

imageJoin in on this week's 24-hour Saturday Sourcing Sprint!

It's basically a casual mini Source-a-Thon.

When it's Saturday where you are, get sourcing!
(And quit when it's Sunday :D )

Anytime you want to compete for the Weekly Winners badge, click answer at the bottom of this post, We use the Challenge Tracker to record the profiles we sources.

Tell us about your successes, discrepancies, stories that tug at your heart strings, and new amazing sources. We have a Google Hangout if you'd like to join us. It will be as busy or quiet as we make it.

  • All profiles improved must come from the Unsourced categories or be already present on WikiTree and only have links to other profiles, links to search results from another genealogy website, or the words "Ancestry tree," "Geni.com," "Pedigree Resource Files" from FamilySearch, and the like. Do not delete these items as they can provide clues for other researchers.
  • If you cannot find any sources, create a Research Notes section, list where you tried to find records, and add four tildes to the end of your note as a date stamp (you won't see it until you save). Do not remove the Unsourced Template and do not use the tracker or count in your tally. Example:
    • "Looked for John in the US Census records for 1900-1940 and couldn't find him on FamilySearch or Ancestry"
  • Sources citations need to be as full and specific as possible. Tell where, what, who, and when, as well as where was the source was found. Do not delete existing items in the Sources area as they can provide clues for other researchers.
    • Examples of full and specific source citations:
      • Escambia County, Florida, Marriage Record, John Jones and Mary Smith, 13 Jun 1888; Ancestry
      • 1900 US Census, North Carolina, Union County, Ben Brokaw in the household of Jane Smithgall, page 13A; FamilySearch
      • Find A Grave, database and images (https://www.findagrave.com : accessed 18 May 2018), memorial page for Bessie B Phillips (1912–1978), Find A Grave Memorial no. 130051313, citing West Virginia Memorial Gardens, Calvin, Nicholas County, West Virginia, USA ; Maintained by Sharon Bowers Curry (contributor 47542086).

See the Sprint Help Page for full details.

When you save the profile, a green bar will appear at the top. Click the Challenge Tracker button, add or verify your WikiTreeID, select a pre-defined comment or add your own to indicate which type(s) of source(s) you added, put a check mark in the "Saturday Sourcing Sprint" box, and click "Add Action." If you participate in the Monthly Sourcerers' Challenge you can click both boxes.

You can track your progress on the Challenge Tracker report.

Don't forget to removed the Unsourced template if you are able to add a source!

Anyone having problems with the Challenge tracker report? I seem to be having problems with the Integrator Challenge and also checking the suggestions report. So I decided to ask around. Thanks in advance for responding.
It's timing out for me too. I've sent an email to Aleš and he'll hopefully have it fixed soon.
I'm in this week though won't have much time. I'm going to concentrate on the Coop family.
Thanks Debi for replying!! I was hoping it wasn't my computer.
It is still not working for me.
Still not working at 6am now but hopefully it will be fixed soon. Will update when working.
Same for myself and Hilary as well
2:53 am  and it is not working... Will we be able to add the info later??
I received a message from Aleš about 3:20 US Eastern time that it was fixed. Please let us know if you encounter any further problems. If this happens again for Sprint participants, please add the WikiTree ID and source you added in an answer post like we used to do. We will add any that you post there to results in the tracker once it starts working again.

Thanks, Hilary. If that happens again, you can leave them in your comment. I'll add them to your tracker total when I do the updates.

This is going to be my first Saturday Sourcing Sprint. One question, do they have to say {{unsourced}}, or can they just be unsourced, to count? Cause I know a whole lot of unsourced profiles.

Forgot to add: -4 is my time zone.

Hi Terry, great to have you join us. No, the Unsourced template does not have to be on the profile, as long as there are not any sources. Profiles that only have links to family trees on other websites count as unsourced. Oh, and it can't be a profile that you added earlier in the week LOL

Sources that don't have links are still valid source, so those profiles don't count.

Family tree links and other non-source data can often provide clues which help researchers learn more about the person and their family. Please leave that kind of information on the profile.
