How to Correct Carrico & Gates duplicates

+2 votes
I believe the following are duplicates:

Husband Peter Carrico, Sr. (24 & 513)

Wife Margaret Ann Gates (1090 & 2541 & 1908)

Son Peter Carrico, Jr (152 & 223)

I discovered this while researching Carrico-39, a direct ancestor. I believe he was fathered by Vincent Carrico (I'm working on sources for a profile) the son of Thomas Carrico-230 the son of Peter, Jr. and Margaret.

How do you handle possible duplicates among a family like this?

Carrico 23 & 152 appear to be duplicates, but when I tried to merge, it gave a list of data errors, as it seems the father and son has the same birth year.

If you can correct these, we can continue with the merge
Hi Sonja

Thanks for looking at the Carrico's for me, you found another that enters into the mix. Looking at this again it looks to me that Peter Carrico-23, 24, 152, and 223 are the same person. He would be the son of Peter Carrico-513. It's interesting that Peter, Sr shares the same wife as the son, obviously that is incorrect. The son's wife, Margaret and Ann Gates, is also duplicated as Gates-1908, 2641, and 1090. I'm thinking that her name is actually Margaret Ann Gates.

So much more to dig into. I'm able to trace my direct ancestors back to Vincent Carrico-544 and think I may be part of Peter's line somehow. Just have to prove it.
Hi, It sounds like you have a tough job ahead of you, good luck!

Do you want me to continue with the merge, and then you correct the data after?

In the column at the top of Peter's profile, scroll halfway down, Merging and Matching. Compare Peter's profile with others you may have noted. If they appear to be the same, initiate "request for merge." Profile managers will then be asked to compare, and if they agree with you they will approve. (Often they see differences.) Should they not respond- exhibit patience as all of us will have the opportunity to compare and perhaps complete, the merge in several weeks. (Not all merges should be completed, as the site notes. ) Be sure to check for after the merge to see if material is doubled and needs to be cleaned.

Clear as mud? Contact an Arborist. We do this "pruning" fairly often.

And welcome to Wikitree, the friendly folk who work together!
