Is there a project for the Scottish Highland Clearance & Diaspora?

I want to help contribute to a project that connects my ancestors in a Scottish enclave in the Gaspe, QC, Canada, to the Scottish Highland Clearance of the 18th and 19th centuries.

1.) Scottish Highlands - Argyll and Bute

2.) 16th to 19th centuries.

Before I get started adding and changing profiles, can you tell me if there is a WikiTree project that would cover this region? If so, how do I get in touch with the project members to coordinate and collaborate on the profiles? Thanks.

Sounds like a very good project Howard. I'm working on the MacQuarrie family from the Isle of Rum (Rhum), Inner Hebrides. They settled in Port Hastings area, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. I have found almost no records in Scotland, and the search is complicated by the re-use of names (several cases of John MacQuarrie, Alan MacQuarrie, etc in each generation). Nevertheless, the records are much more accessible once the families settled in Canada.
There is very little in the way of records pre 1855 in scotland for the higlands . A lot of highland clans did have an ora tradition of recording geneologies , I know that the Macrea did and also the Mackenzies . It would seem logical that other bug clans did as well. It is a bit easier in other parts of Scotland where  parish records seem to have been better kept but pre 1700 is dificult. Scotlands People website is good for acessing records.

Hi Howard,   What a very interesting topic for a free space project.  Thank you for wanting to create same.

Highland Clearances - would be a sub project of  the Scotland Project (part of the UK Project). https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Project:Scotland   It would also link to various clans in our Scottish Clans Project.

If you need any assistance setting this up just give me a shout.   In the meantime I'd like to invite you to join our  Scotland and Scottish Clans projects.
