G2G: Confirmed for DNA question/help

Good grief, I sure am having a hard time understanding how to enter under (sources) My Confirmed DNA.

Could someone check out my profile page at Martha Garrett-5361 and see if I added it correctly?

My DNA was tested in Ancestry.

Thank you

Hi Martha! Sorry, I just saw this (came up as a “related thread”) but I think that it looks great!

Who are you trying to confirm as a relative?

I was told that if it is any one closer than a 3rd cousin then confirmation is not required - because DNA is usually present in 90 to 100% of matches for 1st thru 3rd cousins.

That confirmation tag you have used is usually only used for confirming relatives who are 4th cousins or more and therefore they must be added to each of the profiles that connect you and the distant cousin back to the most recent common ancestor (MRCA).

On the other hand I could be wrong. Here is a help page

If you're going to tick the relationship box that says "confirmed by DNA", then it must be accompanied by a source citation, regardless of genetic distance. (although its not yet actively enforced, it does show up on the Suggestions list if the citation text does not match expectations)

The 3rd cousin cutoff is for determining whether or not triangulation is needed.
