How does one create an account if one does not know who one's father is?

You don't need to know who your father was in order to have an account here. You know who you are, so you can make a profile for yourself.

The name(s) on your profiles should be your own name(s), not the name(s) you might have had if your father had been in your life. For your last name at birth, use the last name on your birth certificate -- that's your name.

You could start with your maternal grandparents, then their parents and so on. mtDNA could help on the straight maternal line.

My mother's line goes back to England, but I needed a confirmation of accuracy. Her mtDNA result helped confirm a common ancestor born in 1564.
