What does this mean? A living non-member can only be Unlisted.

I'm very new here and have lots of questions. Most profiles on WT are of non-members, right? And most have a privacy profile of something other than "Unlisted." What am I missing?

It means that you cannot add a living person other than yourself to Wikitree unless they agree to membership. You can read more about the new privacy regulations here.

Does this mean that existing profiles of living non members are to be deleted?
NOT deleted, NO.

They will however being going UNLISTED or Black on the privacy level. Only the profile maanager will be able to access them.

Once they have gone black however, they can only be reactivated by adding a date of death and a source for that DOD.

Any orphan profile of people with no death dates will also go black (unlisted) as well, and without a PM, they wont be able to be reactivated. Except by asking the wiki-team to do it.
This also means that unless you have a date of death, no currently living person (not even a Notable) can be added to Wikitree!!!

Well they can but their privacy level will immediately be unlisted or Black.
Are there any plans to relist blacked out orphan profiles after a certain amount of time- like 120 years after birth date or anything like that? Or do we just loose them?
I don't know. You might want to ask that as a new question.
Orphan profiles with no dates were not made unlisted. [Edit: well unless they had a birth date and were under 100 years old]

You can also add living people, they just will be made black immediately, and can't be changed to another privacy level until they die. If they are over a certain age (150, at the most) they can be opened up.

BTW, the GDPR stuff was implemented this morning and there are no further privacy changes planned at this time.

Craig, welcome to G2G forum.

"Unlisted" is the only privacy level allowed for profiles of living people who are not WikiTree members because of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Please see here:
