Thomas Golden. Location: Mukilteo, Snohomish, Washington. Date: 1910.

Thomas Golden was a stationary engineer who lived ca. 1900-1910 in Mukilteo.  The location is the Alaska and Puget Sound Powder Mill in present-day Powder Mill Gulch, between Mukilteo and Everett.  Thomas is likely the engineer in the hat, vest and tie.  The other men are holding dynamite boxes.  About twenty years after this photo (January 1930), the mill exploded in a tremendous blast that broke windows in Mukilteo and Everett.  No one was killed and a few had minor injuries.  This photo was donated to the Mukilteo Historical Society by his son George Golden of Eugene, Oregon.

My mom, age 97 (yes, still living) was nine years old when the explosion occurred. She lived in nearby south Everett, just a few miles from the mine. She says it broke windows in many of her neighbors houses. This is a great photo and story. Thanks so much for sharing it.
