Merging descendants of Alexander Underwood

I've noticed that Old Alexander Underwood of Warrenton, York County, Pennsylvania, USA, has a lot of unmerged and unconnected descendants. I’ve already started the attempt to look for duplicates and requesting merges, and I’m asking (begging?) all folks who have profiles of Old Alex and his descendants to help me in this. Anne Travilla-1 and -40 would be a good start. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!! It surely would add clarity to Alex’s descending lines. Many, many thanks ahead of time!

Pip, The first obstacle is that no marriage record has yet been located for Alexander Underwood, other than to his last wife Sarah. He had no children from that final marriage. Quaker Meeting records do show a wife named Jane who appears to have been mother of all his children. There is some controversy as to whether there may have been another wife prior to his marriage to Jane. Sources are needed other than Ancestry trees and LDS files.

All seven of his sons are named in his will.  The daughters appear to be where most of the confusion lies.  Only four of them are named in his will. These were Mary Wells, Ann Frazier, Jane Smith, Ruth Morthland.

I've made some comments on several of the children's profiles with notes of changes that could be made.  Hope that helps you in your search.

Thanks, Karen. I’ve struggled with Alexander’s marriage(s), too. There has been a lot of discussion (with a lot of copying other folks’ ideas) about this issue. I’ll check out your notes on the daughters and see where that leads.

My link to Alexander is not foolproof, but some research I’ve seen by a cousin of mine makes it hard not to believe it’s true. I’m going with that until proven otherwise.

Again, many thanks for your help.

By the way, when you look at Alexander's grandson, Alexander Underwood (the son of his son Samuel Underwood and Ann Travilla), his trees are so messed up that they really have to be started from scratch. I am looking so hard for his will right now. He was in the 1800 Census at Montgomery County, North Carolina and then magically disappears from the state. I have also been looking for an actual death record for Ann Travilla, the widow of Samuel Underwood. It seems that 1804 is when she died. Then, suddenly, Ann Underwood Rhoads and brother James Underwood take their families to Ohio and their brother Alexander disappears, too. It would be so great if there were a probate file for her. Sorry about the rant. Have a wonderful day.
