I need help translating text from Massachusetts, Town and Vital Records, 1620-1988 for Deborah Macy:

"Deborah, ch. Thomas and Deborah, 17th, 4 mo. 1726, C.R.4. [second w. Benjamin coffin (s. Nathaniel), second w. Edward Starbuck (s. Paul), d. Thomas 2d and Deborah (Coffin), 17th 6 mo., P.R.38.]"

I can't see it, do you have a link?

The link opens the page, but I also typed the text in the question.  I figured out most of it, but wonder what the P.R.38. is.

I think the link opens the page for you because you're logged in.

For the rest of us, we see:

P.R.38 is described on page 8 of the document. Enter 8 in the field at the bottom center of the viewer.

Your link only gets to the query page even if logged into Ancestry. If you go to page 5 of the book, abbreviations are defined. To translate:

  • ch is child
  • C.R.4 is 4th Congregational Church
  • P.R.38 is Private Record #38
  • s is son
  • w is wife or week
I haven't take the time to decode some of the syntax, but the abbreviations are listed. Also, there are a number of related items at FamilySearch in the Catalog (https://www.familysearch.org/search/catalog/results?count=20&placeId=184281&query=%2Bplace%3A%22United%20States%2C%20Massachusetts%2C%20Nantucket%22&subjectsOpen=433394-50,1246203-50,788405-50)
