How many of your great-great-great-grandparents have you found?

Question

As we have:

* 2 parents

* 4 grandparents

* 8 great-grandparents

* 16 great-great-grandparents

* 32 great-great-great-grandparents

How many have you found?

When I started my tree 21 years ago I had only the parents, grandparents, four of 8 great-grandparents, and 2 of 16 great-great-grandparents.

By March of this year I had learned all of the 3x greats except with only 3 still unknown.  A DNA test confirmed #30 and some help from Eva Ekeblad & the Sweden Project led me to the last two.

How many of your 32 great-great-great-grandparents have you found?

(& by the way, if you don't have a lot, don't be discouraged - they will come in time - as you can see, mine took 21 years!)

I'm missing both parents for my 2x-grandfather Cyrus Tanksley and for my other 2x-grandfather Thomas Jefferson Foster, as well as a mother for my 2x-grandfather William Alexander McFatter. So that's 5 out of 32 that are missing.

27 :) I too started with just a few names, the names of my great grandparents, but have now found all 16 of my great great grandparents albeit one of them is just the name and a possible occupation. I've let him go now, had to accept that he will likely always be a brick wall and that I will never get all 32 3xgreats. Pretty chuffed with 27 though ... and yes ... it took some time!

Since I have one unknown grandparent, that means I have eight 3x gt grandparents missing before I even start counting...

I have 14 (out of 16) 3x gt grandparents on my dads side and 8 (out of 16) on my mothers side.

That's 22 in total!!

but if I can confirm the unknown grandfathers family thru DNA, I might be able to add to those numbers!!!

I have all my 2X great grandparents. Only 10 3X great grandparents. 3 sets on moms side, 2 sets on fathers side. No singles.

I've found 30. I am missing the parents of Domenica Gullo. She was born around 1877 in San Pietro a Maida, Italy and died there in 1959. I e-mailed the commune office asking for her marriage banns since she married Antonio Tommaso Tedesco. The banns should have insight as to who her parents were.

Gullo is a name that's in the town. It's also in the neighboring towns too. So, I hope to find something. =D

Sadly, my great-aunt does not know who her grandmother's parents were. Either that or she may not remember. It's hard to say.

Anyway, I have found thirty of 'em thanks mostly to records my cousin Raymalene found, Drouin and other Quebecois records, a genealogy book my maternal grandmother made and US censuses.

I started my tree in 2006 and didn't have much. Now I have a ton!

All 16 on my Dad's side but only 4 on my Mom's side.  Eight of those not found are from NW Italy around 1820 and it's hard to find data ... ah, well, the search goes on ...

When I started I had just one set of great grandparents.

It's taken me almost 40 years, but my 3rd greats now include 14 for my dad and 12 for my mom.

Look at my Morgan Family Tree on Ancestry.com.I have pictures taken of

paintings that hang in British museum of art.Of my 9-10-11 great grandmothers.Plus the tree goes much further back.

I have a complete set of 3rd and 4th great grandparents.  All of my brick wall 4th great grandparents are on my father's side-I have a complete set of maternal 5th and 6th great grandparents (though one set of 6th great grandparents is uncertain, see Jacques Gaumond for more details).

I have the names of 16 of my 3X grandparents.  The identity of one of my great great grandfathers is unknown; the police were never called in to investigate the rape..

I'm still working on my Hughey ancestors.  I don't know Henry's parents.

My Czech ancestors have not been traced back far, but they have relatives in the Great Plains.

Jeanne Stuart's death records show her father as James Stewart, who was born in Scotland as was his wife.  Both were immigrants to Upper Canada, but I have no further information on them.

When I started  on wikitree I believed I had more known ancestors; however current documents suggests that that is not true.  Though Henry Hughey, on the 1880 Census, claimed to be born about 1849 in Ohio and Dr. Christopher Martin Hughey was living in Ohio at the same time, Christopher hasn't proven himself to be Henry's dad.  Chrisopher and his wife Martha Jane were in Iowa in 1850 and Henry wasn't.

I’m missing only two. The brick wall comes from the Great Fire of Baltimore that destroyed all the records for the Irish immigrants brought in to build the railroad.

I have all my great grandparents thru great great grandparents. I have 26 great great great grandparents all born in what would become the USA and I born in Ireland. 5 of the missing grandparents were likely born in Ireland as 3 set sail from there together with the one known Irish great great grandparent. Names are too common and too little information known, so I consider them brick walls.

The next generation, the 4x great grandparents, is where I still have some gaps. Out of 64 I'm still missing 7, all of them on my maternal grandfather's side (the English side, where things get tricky right around the 1830s!). An additional 2 are women whose last names at birth I haven't found yet.

Well, I have all of them on my Dad's side except the maiden name of one my ggg grandmothers.  This is thanks to a very diligent Dodge family in finding them all.  On my Mother's side I've got all but four, and I think I may have found two of those.  Again, with the help of other family members.  This is truly a family affair.

Just 18. 10 missing due to two illegitimacies. 4 missing as I haven't found the Irish records. Husband's better, 29.

I have all 32 ggg-parents. All 64 in the next generation. All 128 in the next. Then it's 185 out of 256. I may be able to add a few more there and in the next generation back.

I don't have any unknown fathers, my paper trails just peter out at different times in different parts of Sweden, because of when church record keeping was inititated/preserved. A few moved to far with a too vaguely stated origin at an early time.

As for pre-1500, I have one thin line in WikiTree stretching back to a bergsman born around 1440 (not researched by me). I know of two other forefathers born before 1500 - maybe I'll get around to ask somebody to enter them for me. But I'm quite satisfied without getting back to the runestones and sagas.

When I find some free time I'm going to have to get back to the Swedish side of my tree and find some gggg-grandparents!

I have 15/16 great-great grandparents, and 30 out of 32 great great great's although one has an unknown maiden name. The next generation is much spottier. out of the great-great-great-great's I have 20/32 on my mom's side. and 16/32 on my dad's side, (36/64). I have 4 3xgreats on his side that had recently immigrated (possibly together) and I cant find the records for them. I'm currently working on possible relatives who came across at the same time with the same name to and from the same places. I'm just struggling with how they keep misspelling Polish names.

I had most of these before wikitree, but I've only been on here for a little while.

I only have 19.5 great great great grandparents identified. The half being where I know her first name, but not her surname. The reason the number is so low is that I have two great grandfathers who were recorded as illegitimate births. Gradually narrowing down some possibilities for their fathers using DNA.

I have all 16 on my father's side, but only two on my mother's. I just threw a monkey wrench in the works recently when I got my DNA results back and discovered my maternal grandmother was adopted. Then there is a maternal great-grandfather who was fostered. I'm working on playing catch-up now after lopping a large branch off of my tree.
