Jennings Simonds is listed on the 1850 and 1855 census of Oswego Co. NY.   The 1855  listing is probably the most accurate, listing his wife Sallie (Sarah) and his daughter, Lydia, born 1848.   Also in the  house are 2 boys identified as nephews: Francis Charles Thornton and Edgar Thornton.  They are with the family in 1850, erroneously identified as his sons.  The 1855 census lists his birthplace as Cortland Co, NY and the boys are listed as born in Broome County NY.  They MIGHT be the sons of Pardon Thornton, who died in Broome Co. in the 1840's.  The boys mother must be a Simonds (Jennings sister)  or Pardon must be Sallie's (Sarah's) Brother.

Do you know anything else about Jennings Simonds that might help me track him down? I live in Constantia, Oswego, NY in the immediate area where Jennings and his family lived. I hope to learn more when I can get to the county seat to check the deeds. I haven't found any reason to think Jennings disappeared because he died: he's not buried in Union Settlement, West Monroe, NY where many other people from this part of Contantia (the hamlet of Gayville) are buried. I suspect Jennings and his family left the area after the 1854 death of Simonds' friend and business partner, Seth Gifford. I'd love to exchange information. BTW, the Constantia Town Historian has no public records to assist in this. I AM the town historian, and there are NO records going back that far.
