need some help to track some people in France

Question

I have been getting bio done on a fille du roy and her husband.  Neither of them has a date of death, and when I researched him a bit more, I found that PRDH says he died outside this province.

There is also a daughter of theirs not in Wikitree yet that Fichier origine says got married in France.  So, did her parents go with her to France or what?  Any data would be appreciated,  Fichier origine data is on the tagged profile.

Here is the daughter's marriage record (on slide 6). It' under the heading "Bernard Charles et Anne Marie Moreau" though the bride is Madeleine Poitevin.

It does say she was born in Québec in Canada but does not name her parents. But she is said to be a widow and servant of a Guillaume Moreau, cabaretier.

It says that she has lived in La Rochelle since about 1699/1700 (huit ans), that her mother is dead and her father still "habitant dudict Bourg Royal" ("a deux lieues de Quebec en Canada") where Madeleine was born.

So her mother died before 1708, we don't know where, and her father remained in Québec.

It also says "en présence... de Jean Poitevin père de l'épouse", so the father came to France for the marriage of his daughter.

what lovely people my French cousins are, even if there's no relation between us.  :D  You've also filled in the gap on the mother, who was said to have died before January 1708, without any basis for the date being given.

A servant of a Guillaume Moreau, verrrrry interesting,..... René Jetté had stated that her father was found in 1667 census as servant of Mathurin Moreau in the colony, although there is question on that.  Census gives no name, and age doesn't concord with 1681 census age.

Mathurin Moreau is the man in 1667 census, not Guillaume, just thought it interesting, possibly a relative, which would make sense in a way, Magdeleine being employed by Guillaume in France, Mathurin was actually living not far from where she was born.

The village is called Dampierre-sur-Boutonne (not Dompierre) and it was certainly in Saintonge, not Poitou.

EDIT Hum no, the village is just on the border between Charente-Maritime and Deux-Sèvres so might be one of the handful of villages of Charente-Maritime which came from Poitou. Checking....

I could not find Jean Poitevin in 1651, but some records are barely legible so I may have missed him.

That register shows that the place was indeed called Dampierre-sur-Boutonne at that time, and not just Dampierre.

Also, I have a doubt about Madeleine's birth date. If it was 1692, then she would have travelled to France without her parents at 8, and married at 16. There is an older sister with the same name born around 1677 (aged 4 in 1681 census), this sounds more likely.

Thank you, the diocese can have changed from what PRDH says and what the marriage says, but as long as the right name is there for the location, don't really care about the diocese.  :D

Madeleine may not have traveled alone, neither of her parents show up here in any record after 1696.  And marriage at 16 is actually pretty usual for the era.  At least on this side of the ocean.  :D  The older sister only shows up in that census, no other trace found of her.

Jean Poitevin's dob is estimated from the 1681 census, Jetté made him born in 1642 by assigning him as the person who was servant in Mathurin Moreau's household in 1667, aged 25, but the census actually gives no name whatsoever for that servant, just an age.  So he's really up for grabs.  Maybe easier to track his parents than his birth.
