What is the relationship between myself and another person if we have a 101/111 GD?

One of my matches and I share a 101/111 genetic  distance. What is unusual about this is that we also share 19 zeros or deletions. These deletions are in the same locations!  It seems to me that we must share a common male ancestor!  Multiple deletions are extremely rare. FTDNA quality control has confirmed the accuracy of the test results.

I have several others who also share 6 deletions in the Y-37 test, 8 more if they tested to Y-67 and 5 more if tested toy Y-111.

What do you make of this?

FT is very accurate. The zeros you share could be the result of the companies used for testing. 101/111 is definitely a match, even if surnames are different.

Definitely related, question is - how far back?

I also have a match that is 101/111. Probably related 500 to 700 years ago. It is on the edge of accuracy of STR testing. There is also the possibility of convergence where mutations occur from much more distant relations. SNP testing is required. Big Y will display the series of SNP mutations that lead to your common ancestor. It may take more than 2 matches to test Big Y. Then tracing your trees back 700 years may require many more old bones to be DNA tested.

You are definitely related, but the question is how long ago your most recent common ancestor lived. That depends a great deal on which STRs or markers you differ on as some markers mutate much more frequently than others. Here's a chart showing mutation rates, which you should use when comparing the two sets of results.

BTW, do you have the same last name?
