I have seen this before in family photographs,(C. 1900 - Lancashire)  and have never really thought about this rather odd looking thing. The Groom, best man & others wearing just their left-hand glove & holding the other glove in this hand. Has anyone else noticed this?

I assume this might be to do with the rules regarding shaking hands whilst wearing gloves - see https://manlymanners.wordpress.com/tag/mens-glove-etiquette/

Paul,

Many thanks, read with interest, yes, it all makes reasonable sense now.
