wikitree links on gedmatch holding - gedcoms not so much

using the GED link found on the one-to-many gedmatch report: not too useful! The wiki links I've tried so far at least show some names. It would be more helpful if the wiki link showed from the matching segment report, which is where triangulations can be generated, or the gedmatch triangulation report - any chance that can happen?

This didn't seem to flow properly in the post itself:

Using the GED link found on the one-to-many gedmatch report: not too useful anymore! The wiki links I've tried so far at least show some names. It would be more helpful if the wiki link showed from the matching segment report, which is where triangulations can be generated, or the gedmatch triangulation report - any chance that can happen?

Hi, Theresa. Last Saturday, GEDmatch posted this on their post-log-on page:

"May 26, 2018 We are still working to hide GEDCOM entries for Living individuals, as required by GDPR. Until we complete this effort, you will likely see many entries hidden."

GDPR bites us again. Seems just about everyone is struggling with the same issues. The GEDCOMs at FTDNA are (somewhat) similarly affected: all individuals with missing death dates, regardless of the birth date, are being displayed as "private" to both matches and the public, even if sharing is set to "public."

As for the WikiTree links being displayed on the Tier 1 "Matching Segment Search" or "Triangulation" reports, I would think that would be entirely up to GEDmatch. Right now, I think they're still hustling as fast as they can between GDPR and the GSK/Parabon repercussions. And I can't say with any knowledge, but there may some technical issues with linking to WT profiles from within the GEDmatch Tier 1 paywall. Dunno.

Thanks for the "best answer" star, Cynthia. In related news is this article written by Kristen V. Brown and published today in Bloomberg, "DNA Website Had Unwitting Role in Golden State Manhunt." In part:

"Those issues are ones Rogers [Curtis Rogers, 79, founder of GEDmatch], who had a long career as an executive at Quaker Oats and other companies, never imagined being caught up in. He expected to spend more time with family in his late seventies, maybe take a cruise. Instead, a hobby is now a full-time job."

"One of these days I'm going to retire and climb on an ocean liner," Rogers said. "Just get out in the middle of the ocean and be away from all this hassle."

I'm a GEDmatch supporter and wish Curtis was having more fun with it right now than he is. It'll quiet down in a month, Curtis! Hang in there!

Thanks for providing us with the news updates about what's going on during these changing times.  I share your wish that Curtis hang in there, and know how much so many of us appreciate him and his work!  :-)
