G2G: Shared Photo: McGee School about 1901

I wanted to share this family photo of Ralph Underwood with the community. Location: Paw Creek, Mecklenburg County, North Carolina. Date: about 1901 or 1902.

The numbers on the front of this picture were written by my Grandpa for the indexing on the back those he remembered (most of them). The quality of the picture is poor, even after editing, but Grandpa is #13 (front row, right, standing next to the teacher, a Mr. Hunter, who, according to the note on the back, "died 1 or 2 years  of Typhoid Fever." Grandpa's sister, Fannie, is #20. This is the earliest known picture of my Grandpa.

The McGee School no longer stands, but it was located near the Robin S. McGee Cemetery where Grandpa buried his parents. Only McGee descendants were supposed to be buried there, but because my Grandpa's father dug several of the graves at McGee Cemetery, he was allowed to be buried there also.
