Why did name change from Arden to Story ?

Sir John Arden  married Alicia Bracebrigge and had two children Thomas Arden 1481-1563 and Greys Arden 1457 -

Thomas Arden married Mary Maria Andrew and had eight children

Simone Arden,Joyce Arden,George Arden,William,Arden,Thomas Arden,Mary Arden,Grace Arden, and Sir Robert Arden Story who is the father of of Mary Arden the mother mother of William Shakespeare. I know the name changed around the time of the War of The Roses in which I believe Sir John Arden was wrongfully killed.

The Robert de Arden that you have linked to was the father of Mary Arden who was the mother of William Shakespeare but was not the son of Thomas Arden and Mary Andrew.

Robert Arden, father of Mary mother of William Shakespeare, and Thomas Arden who married Mary Andrew were cousins, their fathers both being sons of Walter Arden and his wife Eleanor Hampden.

Whilst there are known and acknowledged errors in the Ardens on Wikitree which are in the process of being addressed any suggestion that the name was changed to Story is likely to be just a story...
