I have no solid evidence but I believe that WikiTree has had an influence on Geni. I recently have found Geni sites, such as Sofia Margareta Aminoff which has some supporting links.
Even though Geni sometimes has useful information, I still see people removing it from a profile. Rather than removing it, replace it with a link such as
