Do you know if the "W" in Henry W. Cagle stands for "Washington"?

If it is Henry Washington Cagle, he is my direct ancestor. And I could fill in a lot of his family. My great-grandfather was Henry Washington Cagle, and his father's name was Henry Washington Cagle Sr. But we've been stumped on who his actual father was.

Do you know the birthdate of your great-grandfather and where he was born?  And / or his father's?

I don't know about the "W".

I would say to be careful in assuming a direct descendancy based on the name alone.  I have seen more than one case of multiple relatives in different lines being named the same, sometimes even the middle name.  It is even possible for a completely unrelated family to have and use the same names.  Although your relation is possible, I suggest you find something more substantial before betting the farm on it.

Have a great day,

I will say with certainty that you will b able to confirm this by connecting this Cagle line to a relative of the Washington family. If the name is in your family prior to the presidents birth then it's more likely it's a George Washington relative at least. Try first to trace the name to tidewater Va planters. If Cagle's by marriage have this connection and carry the name that's a good sign.

My MACON family is related to both the Washingto's George and Martha by several marriages before and after their marriage. We are also connected to the cagle's when John Cagle of Randolph Co marries Fanny (Francis) Macon this was about 1800 when they marry. Fanny was daughter of John Macon III second cousin to Martha Washington.
