Have been having a fantastic time today creating a profile of one of my all-time favourite authors, Ion Idriess (first read one of his books as an 8yo - 55 years ago). Have marked him as Notable, and very rightly so. He was an Australian Lighthorseman in the First World War and wrote more than 45 (mostly non-fiction) books over a 40-year span. But what I just discovered 'blew me away'. His sister married a great grandson of my first Aussie ancestor, Second Fleeter, George Patfield, and of First fleeters John and Mary Small. Moral of the story? Don't just research your direct line / tree trunk. Get out on a limb where the fruit grows.
