Favourite author is related by marriage

Have been having a fantastic time today creating a profile of one of my all-time favourite authors, Ion Idriess (first read one of his books as an 8yo - 55 years ago).  Have marked him as Notable, and very rightly so.  He was an Australian Lighthorseman in the First World War and wrote more than 45 (mostly non-fiction) books over a 40-year span.  But what I just discovered 'blew me away'. His sister married a great grandson of my first Aussie ancestor, Second Fleeter, George Patfield, and of First fleeters John and Mary Small.  Moral of the story? Don't just research your direct line / tree trunk.  Get out on a limb where the fruit grows.

What a great story! I must look up Ion Idriess (wonderful name) at our local library. And some people say genealogy is boring!

In the meanwhile I told this story dozens of times. I googled back and forth with different variations to maybe find out which of the brothers of my great grandmother left his village to live in the village of his wife. Suddenly showed up a link  to a book about the direct descendants of Martin Luther. I had a look there, I reseaarched a bit further, I wrote a mail to the chronist of my great grandma's village. And he confirmed it, The aunt of my great grandma married a direct descendant of Martin Luther. This was a real WOW-moment. Such moments can give you a real blast
