Hi !  My Wiki ID is Oltmann-8.  I am the Profile Manager for my family's Blacksher/Blackshaw genealogy and their Scottish Gaelic ancestors born in Chester, England, including two ancestor profiles I wish to add to complete the family lineage as listed in "Visitations of Cheshire, 1613" "Harlean MS 1535" Pedigree by Norroy King of Arms, and also listed in "Blacksheariana", copyright 1954, by Perry Lynnfield Blackshear, Sr.  I posted an answer to the England Project so that I can add the two ancestors, whose names are:  "Robart Blackshaw, of Withington, born about 1530, married about 1555, son of; John Blackshaw, of Withington, community of Chester, England, born about 1505, married about 1529" as quoted from both resources listed.  John Blackshaw, born about 1505, is the direct ancestor of my husband who is still living--we've been married 34 years & have one wonderful son; we collaborate & do research together.  I do extensive research; gather, buy, and read resource books & materials, type, and teach--because that is my expertise.  Our goal is to link John Blackshaw to his Gaelic & other ancestors in Scotland, ever exploring fascinating ancestors from the Medieval Era and antiquity, including the name "Blackshaw" found at Caerlaverock Castle in Scotland, part of whose estate is currently owned by the Maxwells.  I am so excited to finally communicate with you, Maria Maxwell.  I know there is a connection & I think I've found the link after years of personal, intensive & immersive research.  I'm not searching for glory or fame, only to know the truth and be able to pass along this knowledge to my only son before my day arrives to meet the face of God.  I would be happy to share what I've already learned & intend on adding all of my resources and biographies of our families--one at a time.  Blackshaw/Blacksher ancestors were travelers for sure:  From Ireland to Scotland, marrying daughters of French Knights in Chester, England; to New Jersey, USA; to Delaware, to North Carolina, to Tennessee, to Missouri; and during WWII as an M.P. (Military Policeman) to Normandy, France, and Belgium--being awarded directly by the Prince Regent himself; and afterwards--across the nation to Washington state--where we currently live today.  Considering following in their footsteps--Nova Scotia looks like a fascinating place to live !

Hi delighted to meet you and thanks for your post.    Based on your profile I think the most appropriate Project would be our Scottish Clans Project.    Would you like to join that one ?

Your application for the England Project will give you the UK Project badge.
Thank you for your response !  I would very much like to join the Scottish Clans Project.  It took me forever to find out that the Blacksher/Blackshaw associated clans were Clan Chattan and Clan Shaw of Tordorrach.  And also discovering that "Clark," my maternal grandmother's maiden name is also associated with Clan Chattan.  It's such a relief now, after so much research & time invested, and prayer, to finally discover what clans we belong to !
Hi again and welcome to the Scottish Clans Project.
I had another dozen Suggestions come through today about profiles somehow related to me with Scottish Clan boxes not connected to a project.  I stayed away from those as it remains a mystery what should be done with them, particularly since they have no connection to where I live now.  Annual piping festival here probably doesn't count.  Not many of my Scottish ancestors have clan connections and I can't trace beyond 4th ggps among my Midlothian forebears.

Hi Tim,   These Clan templates should be changed to stickers if it is not appropriate for the Project to manage the profiles involved.   See  https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Project:Scottish_Clans  for the two stickers available and how to add them.  Thanks.

My Grandmother Edna Owen (m. Burnett) had Welch and I imagine English forebears, so I can keep an eye on that part of things.

I'll look for Welch ancestors via my first maternal GM: Edna Iona Owen.

I don't know much about her line. Does anyone else find the Welch of the era before the 1890a interesting???

Her "in family" line is:

  • James Monroe Owen   family list ancestors descendants dna features Find Relationship 1810 Tennessee-Virginia, US - Nov 1849 Carrizo Springs, Dimmit, TX   [M]
  • James Columbus Owen   family list ancestors descendants dna features Find Relationship 20 Jul 1842 Little Rock, Arkansas - 9 Nov 1919 Carrizo Springs, Dimmit Co., Texas   [M]
  • Edna Iona (Owen) Burnett   family list ancestors descendants dna features Find Relationship 27 Aug 1888 Carrizo Springs, Dimmit, Texas, USA - 17 Sep 1972   [M]

Hi again Roberta and good luck with your research.

Yes, I find the before the 1890s interesting. I can trace my lineage back to

Robert Vaughan (1506 - 1579) of Anglesey, Wales.

Looking to be added here, but also as a part of the CYMRU project team (which fits well with below, #1). My eligibility for the pre-1500 is pending, so if I have to wait for a badge, I suppose it is what it is :♦)

AncestryDNA Ethnicity (%) Estimates:

  1. Ireland/Scotland/Wales (28)
  2. Europe West (24)
  3. Great Britain (24)
  4. Scandinavia (19)

*Nearness to Her Majesty the Queen with analysis to date: 10th cousin, thrice removed. However, only about two ancestry lines of inquiry are essentially "complete." Nevertheless, the majority of profiles that I have done remain in my Ancestry.com (nonpublic) profile, as it appears that my GEDCOM image's deemed too large.

I am in the process of joining with the CYMRU project, ENGLAND as well as the EUROARISTO, this one seems like a reasonable addition, given the preponderance of Great Britain ethnicity that I have. My main focus is to clear up dead ends from my past work, which indirectly benefits others. The guidance here on naming conventions is quite encouraging.

Thanks and I look forward to joining the team and receiving the badge.

Did you want to join the Scotland Project or the Scottish Clans Project?

Hi, Maria! Can you give me a quick outline of the difference between the Scotland Project and the Scottish Clans Project? I'm not sure which one is right for me.
Hi Andrea,  The Scotland Project is based on county locations and is best if you are researching say 1700 to modern times or a particular area of Scotland.   Also not all Scottish famililes were clans so this fits the bill for any age with them.

The Scottish Clans Project is basically a one name study for each Clan.  If you are researching your connection to a particular clan  then you might choose this one.

You can of course join both !!
I think I'd like to join both, then! :)
Hi Andrea,   and welcome to the Scotland and Scottish Clans Projects !!

Hello,  I'd like to join the Scottish Clan project.  I descend from Clan Donald, which a branch formed the MacDonnells of Leister, Ireland.  I'd like to eventually do some more research and confirming once I get my lines all recorded and connected.  Thank you.

My maternal line is almost exclusively from Scotland with the following surnames:-

  • Hill - Falkirk & Stirling -> Glasgow
  • Sharp, Hunter, Simpson, Wardlaw - Fife
  • Bain, McKay, Henderson, Sutherland, Gunn - Caithness
  • Nisbet, Loudoun, Paterson, Crawford - Ayrshire/Lanarkshire

Primarily interested in Scotland, but some people did originate from or end up in England, Wales and Ireland too.

Hello, my great-grandfather Neil McAllister migrated from Dumfries, Scotland to the United States in the 1880's. I am interested in learning more about the clan and collaborating on DNA results.  I visited Scotland twice; once stopping by the McAllister Clan Abbey in Glenbarr, beautiful country.

Hi! I am a direct descendent of Robert II on my mother's side, and I am a direct descendent of Robert the Bruce on both my mother and father's sides. My great-grandmother was Katie Angeline Stewart, daughter of Robert Wilkerson Stewart of SC.

My maiden name was Campbell, and on my father's side there are also Abercrombies from Scotland. Several of my ancestral lines come from Scotland. I would love to be a member of this project.

Hi!

I started looking more in depth at my maternal grandfather's family and they're mostly from Scotland. I'm interested in looking more into Clan Kerr, which my families origins are. I want to discover more about that aspect of my family.

Hello. My Wiki ID is Miller-56544. I have 7 GGParents from Scotland (Miller, Walker, Stephen, McCulloch, Christie, Gordon & Cruikshank) and one Ulster/Scot (Carmichael). Most research has now reached walls, though there are some intriguing possibilities. Would be great to be part of the Scotland Project.

I have multiple ancestors from Scotland and England with a fair number from Wales and Ireland. If possible, add me to England, Scotland, Ireland and Wales. I uploaded a new GEDcom today and I don't know how much pre-1700 info will be accepted since I'm a bit new to WikiTree. I am hoping that participation in these groups will be of great help filling in blanks and correcting errors in my Ancestry research.

Hello. I'm Penn-1125 on WikiTree. My Ancestors are 90%+ from England, Scotland and Ulster according to the research my brother and I have done on our tree. Ancestry DNA results and LivingDNA results are both available on my profile. Both sides were among the earliest British colonial settlers in North Carolina, Maryland and Virginia. We have direct ancestors in the UK with the surnames Penn, Connelly, MacGregor, Joynes, Edgefield, Campbell, McNicol. I would love to firm up the links on my tree and find living descendents there with common ancestors. I'm eager to help provide accurate, well sourced and documented contributions to this project. Any assistance will be most appreciated.

I would like to join the Scottish Clan Project.  I have ancestors who are members of the McLaurin, McLaren clan.  I am trying to find parents of Duncan McLerren  Various spelling from Cumberland County North Carolina.  I am currently waiting for my DNA kit which will allow me to participate in the clan research of the Clan McLaren Society.
