Someone sent this to me in email and I had to research it to see if it was true.

It is.

15-year-old Catherine Cudney: occupation: "does as she pleases"

"United States Census, 1880," database with images, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:33S7-9YBG-HTZ?cc=1417683&wc=QZ24-Y9G%3A1589394822%2C1589399298%2C1589396406%2C1589398010 : 24 December 2015), Wisconsin > Richland > Orion > ED 238 > image 4 of 18; citing NARA microfilm publication T9 (Washington, D.C.: National Archives and Records Administration, n.d.).

Hahaha! That is the funniest entry I’ve ever seen on a census records. Thanks for sharing it with us. You know pawpaw was the one who they interviewed.

I wonder about the occupation listed for John G. Duff, 55yo, of Elk Garden, Virginia, in the 1880 Census:

"Watching with arms for his enimies"

What a story his family must have told the enumerator!

Then there is also the 1870 census showing George Palmer of Ellsworth, Kansas, which give an interesting look at a house of sorts: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:S3HY-DC19-QD?i=10&cc=1438024&personaUrl=%2Fark%3A%2F61903%2F1%3A1%3AMCJ2-7TB

That's wonderful, Larry!
That is awesome :)
And here I thought a cat in the 1911 England census was interesting.
