Is this useful and worth my time?

I am making a big push to clean up some of the categorization that relates to the African-American Project.  I thought I should start with the existing framework.  There has been a lot of beautiful work done by the Military and Wars Project, so we should all be able to easily categorize soldiers.  I was going to work on the Slave Owner categories first.  I spruced up Alabama, researched and made a chart of the counties in Alabama (which can be pilfered and used for other purposes).  Now I want to re-categorize the individual profiles on the high level category page.  Check it out and make suggestions/comments.

It's looking great! Awesome work!
That looks really good.  Super helpful for future volunteers.  I have often thought that the work about "how to do the work" then makes it much easier for someone else to come along and DO the work, if that makes sense!
That's what I was going for. Sometimes I skip around between projects so I left a blurb about what I think needs doing. Thanks for the comments.
Great job. Absolutely worth the time.

You forgot to bold Bibb but that looks really good. Now you are hired to get the rest of the states to match. laugh

I bolded the Bibb for ya ;)

Oops!  I'll get around to it as time permits.  I have one of those commercial stoves with all the burners glowing!
I already fixed it for ya.
You did a wonderful Job!

I was thinking that if someone needed a category that they couldn't find, it would be easy to see if a county even existed so it would be easy to create.

Very nice work, Lucy!

But I do have a very nitpicky comment to share:

I don't agree with the statement "The slave-owner categories exist to help with tracking the genealogy and family history of pre-Civil War era African-Americans." I've created several slave owner categories, and I've added profiles to these categories, but my primary purpose in creating most of these categories was not to help with African-American genealogy. In several cases, I created a category to help with gaining insight into the slave owners in my ancestry and to learn more about slavery in the communities where my ancestors lived.

My slave-owning ancestors were in the North, long before the Civil War. They had fairly modest-sized farms (not large plantations) and the fact that they kept slaves has been largely swept under the rug of history. Their slave ownership is documented in sources like wills (which often didn't name or describe the slaves, but sometimes include a first name or clues to their approximate age), the 1790 U.S. Census (which counted slaves, but gave no additional information), and earlier local or state censuses (which also counted slaves, but have no other information). It would be wonderful if the information in these slave owners' profiles could help in tracking the genealogy and family history of the enslaved families, but there's not much information to go on (nothing like the 1850 slave schedules). I figure that the categories are worth having even if the information can't be used that way. For me, it's been worthwhile to see who else in the family or neighborhood also had slaves, and to see what can be gleaned from those other slave owners' profiles and the sources they cite.

So I'd suggest "The slave-owner categories can help with tracking the genealogy and family history of pre-Civil War era African-Americans." or  "The slave-owner categories have a primary purpose of helping with tracking the genealogy and family history of pre-Civil War era African-Americans."

Not nit-picky Ellen, this is what discussion is for.  But I must admit, I didn't write the whole page, just the chart.  I like both your suggestions.
