Do you Manage one of the profiles with Category:New York?

There are several dozen profiles with the "Category:New York" on them that are not open.

If you are the manager of these profiles, would you consider using a more specific locational Category than "Category:New York", e.g. Category:Niagara County, New York", "Category:Buffalo, New York", etc.

There are also numerouse other subcategories under "Category:New York" to take care of notable New Yorkers, e.g. "Category:New York Governors", "Category:New York Notables", "Category:New York Inventors", "Category:New York Yankees", etc.

I have helped profile mangers of all open profiles that previously had the "Category:New York" to assign an appropriate topical or locational category.

Thank You,

I think you mean "do you manage" :) ... nobody owns profiles on Wikitree!

And, like other confusing Categories, like Washington or Georgia, one could just use Category: New York City, or Category:New York State, of that’s as close asyou can get.  More specific as suggested aboveis best, but resolving the ambiguity is necessary.

Good point.  Since we don't have disambiguation pages like Wikipedia, maybe the "Category:New York" should be "Category:New York State".  This is something the Categorization and State Projects should discuss doing for New York, Georgia, and Washington.
There is a Category:New York, New York for the City alone, so it seems Category: New York is meant to represent just the US state.
