Why does this search show up like this?

Last night I came across a family with some disasterous spelling. Someone had even resorted to creating a profile called "Chantry or Chauntry-2"

So I started going thru them - changing the LNAB and dropping out the extra "e" (or two) that had crept in. While looking for strays, I was executing searches, which still reports (but doesn't list) the existance of Mr. Chantry or Chauntry.

http://www.wikitree.com/genealogy/Chantry%20or%20Chauntry

Is this because the redirect exists and gets picked up in the search query? Will it ever disappear?

P.S., not finished with them yet, so I know there are still dups.

I think they might go when the datbase is reindexed, usually middle of the night EST.

It still shows up that there are two "Chantry or Chauntry"s
Still not gone - I guess they stay forever
It will show up thusly if you are searching for a name that isn't in the database.

it also shows up 7 Chauntrys but displays 0.
I think the redirects are indexed.
Sounds good but what if I want a list of Chauntrys because that Is my name and spelling?

I don't understand - why could you not get a list of them? There are still "Chauntry"s. If you want to find out what happened to one or both of the "Chantry or Chauntry"s, then you could enter "Chantry or Chauntry-1" into the url.

But I would not know do enter that, would i?
Enter what? I don't understand what you are trying to understand.

For instance, if you are trying to find out if there are any people in the system who have the name "abcdefghij", and you enter into the name search box "abcdefghij" and it says there are 15 profiles with that name, EXCEPT none of them are shown, then I think it could be a safe assumption that there were at one time 15 profiles carrying that name, AND they would be numbers from -1 to -15. So, upon entering in the url abcdefghij-1 (or -2, or -3, etc) you will discover what happened to the profiles carrying that name, or at least, you will find the profile to where it's been redirected, if it has been merged.
If my name is abcde I wont think to look for abcde or abcdf
